Decorating Your Home With Family Portraits

Today’s families are more and more often looking for a way to preserve their
family heritage in a meaningful way that can be treasured for generations. A young couple
starting a life together, a new family bringing home their first born, or a family growing
in stages and sending the oldest off to college… these are
just a few of the moments in the history of a family that can be marked
and remembered with fine family portraits.

In order to get the most out of your portrait session, it is important to plan the session
with the result in mind- beautiful images that deserve to be proudly displayed in your home.
There is no better way to add life, warmth and a personal touch
to your living space then with your family portrait images.

To begin, plan the session around your lifestyle. Do you live near the beach and visit it often?
Perhaps a family beach session fits your lifestyle and home. Or, is your
family active in the outdoors and a session at the lake or park fits your personality best?
Often times, a family’s own home can make a wonderful backdrop for a session.
Families with newborns and very young children may
consider a session in the comfort of their own home or photographer’s studio.

On the day of the session, plan your wardrobe carefully. It is very important
to coordinate each family members wardrobe so that the family as a whole is
unified in the image and no one person stands out or detracts from the group
with the wrong color top or loud print. Ask your photographer
for tips on wardrobe planning, but usually simpler is better.

Carefully consider the locations in your home where your family portraits
can best be displayed. Over the fireplace mantel and behind the couch are the two
most popular locations, but also consider a child’s room to display his/her portraits.
Also, a dining room, entry hall or master bedroom typically has plenty of wall space.
Proper size planning is imperative to truly enjoy portraits as the are meant
to be enjoyed-from across the room by all of your guests and visitors.
Also consider a contemporary grouping of wall portraits to truly make a statement.

Using the elements of design including style, color, composition and
harmony, a professional portrait becomes a one-of-a-kind work of art
to be proudly displayed and enjoyed. With the addition of custom framing
to best suit your decor and taste, family portraits
will decorate your home and enrich your lives for years to come.
